Speak For Yourself, Dude!

The head of the MN Democratic-Farmer-Labor party was interviewed on drive-time radio this morning, and said (para)"The ACA is a step in the right direction. Most Americans want to see everyone have health insurance."

Fuck that noise.

I want to see everyone have HEALTH CARE. As in the chance to see, be evaluated by, a doctor. By whatever means necessary. If it involves some sort of insurance scheme, and that is the only way to get people HEALTH CARE, son-of-a-bitch, but at least people will have HEALTH CARE.

On a basic level, however, health insurance is a scam, gambling on the life of a person, and the health insurance companies have no particular mission or any particular frame of mind towards providing HEALTH CARE for anyone. Nothing makes an insurance company happier than you paying your premiums in full for the year and then unexpectedly getting caught in a woodchipper.

The ACA is only a step in the right direction if along those coordinates there is a single payer system.

  1. "unexpectedly" getting caught in a woodchipper. Right.

    2. For a while, I was doing conceptual work at Sadly, No on what was being tentatively referred to as a "wingnut Processor". The wood chipper was discarded as being too painless.

Then, of course, SN turned to suck and the plans were shelved.

    3. ....bowling balls, however, remained an integral part of the device.

    4. Tried using a wood chipper with bowling balls - my wife still beat me. On the other hand, I did get drunk.

  2. AMEN, Paleo! As a guy who used to work for an insurance company, the health insurance industry needs to be nuked from orbit.

    1. It is the only way to be sure.

To me, it is kind of like the scene in The Incredibles where the hero tells a lady what to do in the form of "Whatever you do, do not request Form 22/J and send to this address etcetcetc" and his boss loses his bushwa over people suddenly figuring out how to get their insurance benefits.

  3. The confusion between care & insurance is sad but typical.

Anyway, it's just like legal reefer: By the time it got here it didn't do me any good. Same w/ single-payer; you kids'll be on Medicare once it gets here.

This is why I don't have kids, to kind of speed up the process!

And you are, of course (and all too often - ppbbblltt!) correct.

    2. understandable, which is why we should start a thread about it HERE.

Also, tomorrow is FIRST kickoff and I will be insanely busy as I am in charge of design and production schedule this year, as well as making sure idiot high school students leave with the same number of digits as they entered with. I am considering putting out a bleg to the 7 or 8 people I know on the internet, as this year we are going to TWO regionals while missing out on a NASA grant, so we are bootstrapping to the maximum.

Also, if you bleg, I'll beg sweetie. I have it on good authority that it will only cost me one pound of flesh, and that I may be allowed to choose where it comes from.
