World, There Is Someone I'd Like You To Meet

I haven't been out much for a few weeks, just basically keeping up on teh news. One of the primary reasons is so, so-o-o-o-o very awesome...

World, Jackson. Jackson, world.

Jackson is a 3 mo.+, 25 # black lab (and ?). He is the mostest enthusiastic thing on earth right now. He had a cone when we first picked him up, due to recent work that I am sure he will forgive the fostering agency for someday.

We didn't necessarily introduce him to the cats in the right way. He came in the door, cone on head, saying

STUFF!!!!STUFF!SHINY!OHMIGODOHMIGODOHMYGOD!!!!

The punkboy cat, not entirely feeling the scene, freaked, and is only now starting to remember that, hey, his house. I honestly hope for punkboy Milo to slap the dog around once, just to establish the pecking order, and I don't believe the dog gives a damn anyhow. I just worry about my cats...

The other cat, Queen Diva Maisy, is usually the skittish one, incredibly so. Her reaction to her new brother has been atypical, I think in part because Jackson seems to pay not the slightest bit of attention to the cats. Basically, she looked down, said "What fresh version of Hell is this? Meh." and continued on with her business, that of getting fed and skritched.

The cone came off Friday night, and yesterday was playday. Today, we start some basic training, primarily 'come here' and gotta work on the jumping, he is big enought and heavy enough that my happy boy parts have retreated into my abdomen for the duration, and I'm pretty sure the 'lil puppy' nearly gave me a black eye on Friday.

Jacks will be an occasional visitor to my little bloggy home, he's very friendly, no table scraps, please!

...
One thing, thank FSM for no-kill shelters and fostering agencies, but good lord did they put us through a wringer. And we ain'tn't teh only ones - our vet just got a dog though a fostering agency, our VET, and he went through the same thing, quizzes, home inspections, cavity search.

  1. Cavity search is going a bit too far. A bit.

Congrats on the new family member!

    1. Depends on who was doing the searching. If it was Jackson, it might have been accidental.

    2. Sweetie was wearing a hoodie with a big waist pocket, with a couple of things that smelled treatish, and as she bent down to get her purse, Jacks buried his head, in the pocket, hanging down at hmmmph level.

Sweetie didn't understand immediately why I was l laughing too hard to breathe.

  4. Yay!

I went the no-kill shelter route for Curly, ten years ago. But chose a regular one for LarryElvis, reasoning it'd be better to get a kitteh that would otherwise be put down. Love 'em both to pieces.

    1. We always knew it would be a shelter dog, no-kill or otherwise. Both cats are shelter kittehs too. I loves me some critters!

  7. LOL…'tis apparently the season for new beasties and congratulations on Jackson!
Here, we have a rescued Samoyed, old, overweight, and partially hairless…his name is Jack and he is making us all smile excessively because obviously Samoyed smiles are as contagious as yawns!

    1. Thanks! And Samoyeds, my experience, are incredibly smart (sometimes too smart, tricky buggers...) - missing any cookies/pies/roasts?

    2. LOL…Yes, they are bright; we've owned them before. Had one that would open the kitchen door and eat butter softening to make cookies!
This one is merely trying to scare us into submission of feeding him other than his dogfood, as in "whatever you are having would be FINE."
If he didn't NEED to lose 25 or 30 lbs, I'd be worried. No Sammie should weigh 100 lbs (down from 116).

  8. Hi Jackson! Congrats paleo! Rescue pups are the only way to go. While the background checks are rough, I'm glad they do them. Lots more dogs would continue to end up as bait dogs in fighting rings and/or experimented on in some lab otherwise.

    Humans are awful creatures.

    1. I'm glad about the background check really, but I know I am not a screwball, and so I kept saying, as they toured, "wantdogwantdog", so I was being a bit selfish, I know they have a, well, mission?

And humans being awful creatures? Yeah, a lot of times. Focus on the ones who ain'tn't. But I either have to run for president or stop reading the news...

    2. either of you old softies want to rescue this stupid old orange dog? She hardly farts at all, anymore, and only poops on the carpet when it's raining or cold out.
