Open Letter To Morning Grind, AM950, MN's Progressive Radio - War On Sasquatch Edition

Morning drive time radio again. Matt McNeil, guest host Kate Tracy, producer William Wonderful - this is my show. I'm not a daily call-in, but fairly often.

Ok, 2cd amendment stuff, Obamacare, my progressive fervor mounts!

Ooof, derp, the dumbass Texas-hunter-kills-Bigfoot story. What fresh hell will this be?...Wow. Well, open letter time.

Mr. McNeil, Mr. Wonderful, Mrs. Tracy (No, you don't get out of this.):

You are trolling me, dudes. I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Let's try this from another angle.

There are many oddball, near impossible creatures in nature.

  • Platypusses
  • Nancy Grace
  • My dog, all 40 pounds of whom is trying to sit on my chest, and who ate my favorite Packer hat yesterday. After I'm confident he has learned sit and stay, we'll have to work on the Lombardi Era.
Zoologically speaking, and comparatively, I believe that the possibility of Bigfoot existing is a rather reasonable hypothesis.

As far as the Dyar story and picture, let me preface by saying everything is bigger in Texas, especially the idiots. Upon review of the story, he shot something hairy, chasing after meat in the woods, in the South, I believe what he has there, is ...

Phil Robertson.

Now, I say to you good day. GOOD DAY SIR!!

Morning Has Broken, I May Have Used A Hammer

Walkies for Jackson at Stupid:00AM. Oh well, he needs to explore and run around and whirl me like a dervish.

(Traffic on teh road is confuzzled. Large german person wearing a road vest, headlamp, otherwise all in black 'cuz it's how I roll. Black dog, with an LED that changes colors on his collar, the better to find the lil' punk at night. Both spinning like a cheap discoball.)

Route is taking us past a cemetery. Lots of grass along the road and outside the fence for upon which he may poop. But, he doesn't like that side of the road. Not necessarily avoiding the dead files cabinet, but definitely not interested in walking there. Hmm.

Now, I'm a reasonable man, MacArthur. So I know this isn't...*

Oh wait. I'm a weirdo. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!

...

BIGFOOT!!!

The End Of An Abomination

Way back in the day, not early telebision but in my college years, there was the Sci-Fi Channel.

And it was good. A lot of cheese, Star Treks 1, 3 and 5, one of the Star Wars original trilogies every Sunday afternoon. It even picked up the last few years of MST3K. (Of course, it is also responsible for the demise and burial of MST3K and there is a special fuzzy spark in hell awaiting.)

And then the relentless improving began, the rule of the Overnights and the Demographics. The addition of Friday Night Wrestling. Anime yes, anime no, anime yes, anime no. I believe in ghosts, amongst many other thingies. Sci-Fi started Ghost-Hunters. Excitement for paleo. And added wrestlers. [And Meatloaf (WTF?)] I don't believe in wrestling. It then jumped the shark entirely, with every show finding so much evidence for everything that by now everyone should have a pet poultergeist. (Difficult to housetrain, however.)

Then they changed their name, under the assumption that Hooked On Phonics is the new Esperanto.

More reality programs. I don't know about you, but I like  the movie Highlander. I like Battle Beyond The Stars, I LOVE The Last Starfighter. I do not love Scare Tactics.

And now, premiered tonight?

Deep South Paranormal

Appears to combine the hard science of Paranormal State with the sophistication of Gator Boys/Extreme Exterminators/House of Flav.

Pot, Kettle. Metaphor.

Listening to morning progressive radio, hawking a show called History Unearthed on the H2 channel, starring a local boy, and geologist, Scott Wolter. Admittedly, the geologist part speaks well of him, yet the show is pretty standard conspiracy-ancient civilisation fare. Wevs, it's usually my speed, 'lone wolf redefines history against the whole weight of scientific consensus Mayan hollow earth giants Von Daniken'.

Mr. Wolter, an independent scientific test agent, has authenticated the Kensington Runestone. The host, Mr. McNeil, took advantage of having a scientific expert on the Kensington Runestone, to hammer on the 'squatchers. Again.

I believe in everything. The Kensington Runestone, not so much. Ignoring the fact that the provenance of the stone leaves a bit to be desired, like say, a provenance, and the fact that linguists, cunning though they may be, are all over the map on the text, I find it a little difficult to believe that after 10 members of a party of thirty were killed, fourteen days walking from their boats, that someone would take the time to carve out a block of fairly tough sedimentary rock, carve the story, and leave it upside down in the middle of bleedin' nowhere. Although the stone may in fact be real, the backstory of the find is wildly unlikely - sorry Olaf. Mr. Wolter believes the stone was carved by the Knights Templar - how much do you want to bet the Holy Grail is in Duluth?

Anyhow, I once again wrote of my displeasure to Mr. McNeil:

Mr. McNeil, Mr. Wonderful,
I listened to your 7:00 hour and your interview with Scott Wolter from History Unearthed. You introduced him as a man who had authenticated the Kensington Runestone, and spoke of his show as, well, unearthing the hidden wonders of history. Such as the European gravesite of a 12th century englishman in Arizona. Or Mayans in Georgia. You then took advantage of the presence of the mighty scientist to call people who believe, or hope that, Bigfoot exists, ie., me, stupid.
Now you're just trolling. Having fun?

Just One Little Creepy Thing, That's All I Ask

DateLine: Twin Cities, MN

Forecast - 17 feet of snow overnight.

Forecast - paleo will be shovelling and plowing for several thousand feet tomorrow.

Method Of Procedure: Load up electronic noisemaker thingy with podcasts and magic music-making plasma-type stuff.

Now, of course, I had to review the podcasts, limited space on iPhone because me. One of my favorites is Beyond The Edge, 'alternative paranormal radio'.

Yes, I happily believe in bigfeets, ghosts, greys, gnomes. Other than a couple weird things in a couple places I've lived, and a couple weird lights in the sky, I done been skunked, but I hope, and so, although I try to be discriminating, I listen and read to many bizarre ass things. GhostHunters until they jumped the shark. The Mothman Prophecies (book) by John A. Keel, a truly trippy document, although some of it is now believed to be a hoax perpetrated on Keel. Ooo - fucking BBC Ghostwatch (I'd start a religion to find a BlueRay copy, yeah it's fiction but it's a great story, got the BBC sued and Mary Whitehall frothing at the mouth.) Hey, other people will pay money to see the new GI Joe movie - I have no concerns that I am out of the mainstream.

Anyhoo, the show was about the Bridgewater Triangle and the Freetown Forest in Massachusetts, famously creepy areas, not quite Skinwalker Ranch velociraptor freaky, but historically nuts. They mentioned the Red-Headed Hitchhiker, something like Resurrection Mary in Chicago. This stuff is so cool to me, I'd like to believe there is more out there than what we see, but again, I'm zero for several hundred. Fudge. Anyone know anything in Minnesota? I've heard wendego stories from some Lakota guys I worked with, not told as a ghost story, maybe pulling my leg a bit, but told as a matter of fact thing, an omen of bad change. Ah, well.

Someday, p'raps, but at least I'll be entertained tomorrow.

An Open Letter To AM 950 - Minnesota's Progressive Radio

Listening to the radio on the way to work this morning, The Morning Grind Radio program, local liberal morning drive-time show. The host, Matt McNeil, who I generally like very much, was moved by the coincidence of both himself and his producer, William Wonderful, watching (separately) Finding Bigfoot Tuesday evening. He went off on a short rant about about 'the nuts in the woods', as part of a larger theme of the dumbing down of Americans from, in part, reality TV.

A caller then raised the thought that the IQ of American citizens have dropped 17 points, to the point where we are giving out Tech visas to immigrants to fill our technical positions.

I sent this to the comment line, and have added a touch for clarity.

Mr. McNeil, Mr Wonderful,
I am a huge fan - normally. Today's second hour, however, was ridiculous, in re: to the 'Sasquatch' conversation.
What harm are they (Finding Bigfoot) doing? They like to hoot and holler in the woods, you can believe or not, it's entertainment. They, and I, think that sasquatch (and ghosties, and UFOs) are out there to be found. Other people believe in god - I do not know the religious leanings of the characters on the shows, but I don't.
I am not religious, and while I can believe in, and question, the unknown, even the 'spirit of nature', I do not believe in the traditional Bearded Sky Fairy, smiting the shit out of everything, who will throw me into a sulfurous pit for not hating teh qweers enough. A second, shorter, Open Letter:

Dear Organized Religion,

Fuck off.

Love, paleo
What I see is other people believing in god going on TV every Sunday morning and scaring widows out of their social security. Finding Bigfoot has never gone on TV saying "If you believe in Sasquatch hard enough, and give us every cent you can spare and then some, Sasquatch will make you rich." That's Mac Hammond and his most famous congregant One L Two N's. The Ghost Hunters have never been busted in the LA Times for having a cover-up of kiddie-diddling ghost researchers.
Prosperity Gospel. Ha. Ha. Roger Cardinal Mahoney needs to be jailed all the way through Purgatory.

Regarding **** from *******'s comment about visas, and how we are allowing people into the country to fill tech jobs, those people brought in on visas to fill those positions do so at almost non-living wages. Its not a lack of tech savvy people, it's a lack of tech savvy people willing to work for, when one's salary is divided by hours worked, well under minimum wage. It's not substantially different than undocumented workers coming in to do manual farm labor.
Not to mention, someone overseas can get a great technical education for a fraction of the cost of a university education here in the US. Not to mention, any tech worker unemployed after the age of 45 will be unhireable. Not to mention, any hi-tech worker employed after the age of 50 will soon be unemployed. Not to mention that going into hi-tech as a woman is asking for a lifetime of abuse from the unfortunately very real stereotype of most code monkeys being male  Randroids.

My two cents.
paleo

Do my arguments make sense? Am I totally off base here? I don't knock on people's doors at dinnertime to pass out copies of the Patterson-Gimlin film. I am aware I'm a nerd, I'm okay with it, but does that make me stupid? I'm quite pissed off.

I Have No Clue How I Have Ever Missed This

THIS.

IS.

AWESOME!

Mexico's Island Of The Dolls. The link here is more extensive. A gentleman, some years ago, in Mexico City, found the body of a girl in a canal, and wishing to appease her spirit, or give her indulgence (in the Catholic sense),

COLLECTED DOLL PARTS AND MADE DISPLAYS ON THE BLEEDIN' ISLAND.

Disclaimer, besides being an enormous nerd, I am also into the paranormal, and the odder corners of the universe, and I HATE GODDAMN DOLLS, creepy as shit. Add age, lack of maintenance, exposure to the elements, and decay. Mix well. Eeuurgghh.
